Get your body ready for the S-Mount

If you utilize the S-mount in training, take a look at the video. The questions I ask is do you have the proper amount of hip rotation in each leg? Are you able to do opposite rotation at the same time? This exercise is based off a key movement/stretch in Ginastica Natural. If you don't know what Ginastica Natural is, then you should definitely go to their YouTube page. There is some great info for anyone who trains BJJ.

Is your Butt Scoot telling you something?

Every movement can be broken down to tell you information. The question is are you listening? I'm a goddamn nerd and I can't help but watch people move. Not only that, I watch them move and try to figure out what's going on. One move I see everyone doing differently is the forward butt scoot. There is so much going on in the knees and the hips. If you have to put your hand on the floor during this warm-up, then you need to watch this video.

Butterfly Massage/Stretch for BJJ/10th Planet BJJ

I know you've heard this a million times but you need good hip flexibility in BJJ.  Do your own massage if you can. Learn where your body is dysfunctional. This video will teach you how to gain more flexibility in the butterfly stretch. This video was influenced by a YouTube video I saw where Eddie Bravo talked about the importance of hip flexibility in his system (click here to see the video). Definitely a must if you practice 10th Planet BJJ.

Do a Proper Glut Stretch


Everyone knows or does a glut stretch. Everyone has their own version of it. Here, I show 2 ways of doing a glut stretch, or I like to call posterior hip stretch. To do a proper posterior hip stretch, it's all in the details. The smallest movement in the wrong direction can be the difference between a good or crappy stretch.

Fix Thoracic Spine pain using the Upa Escape.

To do this stretch/mobilization, you need a foam roll. If you don't have one, then go get one because I'll posting other videos on this blog on how to use the foam roll. If you want to be rolling BJJ for a long time, this is a must have.

One correction. I said that the angle of the foam roll is 45 degrees but it is clearly not even close to 45 deg. It should be more like 30 degrees.
